As you could read in my previous blogs, we had a good time in South Tuscany. Because a part of my wife’s family lives in Florence, we decided to visit them one day on our way back. This is the fifth time that we visited Florence. We love this ‘public museum’ city with its beautiful surroundings and, last but not least, great ice cream.
Before we visited our family, we had to do the two things we always do when we visit Florence: 1. Eat pizza bread at a small bakery (I don’t know the name): 2. Eat ice cream from Grom. Grom really has the best ice cream I ever had. They use fresh and organic (non artificial additives) ingredients. I hope that they will open a store in Amsterdam too!
Desmo designer store
After our ice cream experience, we visited the designer bags store of Desmo (which is owned by my wife’s cousin). It is really a nice designer shop. Our Italian family members are all involved in the fashion business, but some have restaurants or supermarkets. One of the youngest cousins just opened his own wholesale store and proudly presented us his place. After a hard day’s work, they took us to a sushi bar were we had dinner with the younger family members.
The next day, we drove the fiancee of our cousin to Milan. We were on our way to Germany anyway, for our last stopover before home. She runs some restaurants in Milan. We think she’s really cool. Once we arrived there, she invited us for lunch in a Thai restaurant of her uncle. From the outside, it just looks like any other building, but once you entered this place, you enter a beautiful, traditional Thai world, designed with dark wood, flowers and golden walls. And as if we were not spoiled enough already, we had the most delicious Thai food. We had a great time talking and laughing with some other Italian-Chinese friends who were coming as well. The name of the restaurant is Bussarakham and is located in front of the Porta Genova train station. We rate this place with an 8.5 out of 10.
Schwarzwald in the dark
After our two-hour lunch, we had to say goodbye and unfortunately, we did have time to do some siteseeing in Milan. After a long but easygoing drive, we arrived at our B&B Haus am Blauenbach in the Schwarzwald area. It was already late in the evening and we had to hurry up if we still wanted to have evening dinner. We received some restaurant suggestions from the very friendly owners of our B&B. We went to hotel-restaurant Alte post in Müllheim. And again, we had a great dinner experience. We chose a three course dinner, with soup, fish, a vegetarian dish and we finished with a lovely pastry with home-made ice cream. They also surprised us with a free amuse of smoked fish and we had bread with pink butter from, we thought, cranberries. The service was friendly too. We rate this restaurant with an 8 out of 10. What a life!
When I opened the windows the following morning, we saw to our surprise that the hotel is surrounded by apple trees. We made a small morning walk, and we discovered that the village is full with apple trees. The breakfast in our B&B Haus am Blauenbach is very tasty, and the service is super friendly. I hope that we will come back some time to see more of this beautiful place. We rate this hotel with an 8+ out of 10. We drove back home with a satisfied smile on our faces.
