Seven years ago, I went to Berlin with my girlfriend (now my wife). Because of her birthday, I booked a hotel and arranged a long weekend in this great city. Curious about how things have changed, we took our car and checked in on Friday night.
A little tired, but with some energy left, we started exploring the hotel neighbourhood for a nice cocktail bar. Because my wife was still a bit hungry, we decided to have a late night Chinese food experience. Restaurant Aroma (at the Kantstrasse) is open until 03:00 It’s an old and a bit dirty place but packed with people, even at midnight. The food is okay, the service is friendly but a bit slow. We were not disappointed, but not enthusiastic either. We had a sui kau soup (shrimp dumplings) and a portion of crispy noodle with seafood. We rate this place with a 6.0 out of 10.
The cocktailbar: “Zeitlos”, at the Kurfurstendamm, which had been recommended by the hotel receptionist, looked big and boring. It was nearly empty. We decided to hunt for a cocktail bar a little bit longer. We arrived at a semi-chique-but-cozy bar called “Absetz“. We had some nice cocktails here. The strange thing is that people are still allowed to smoke in bars here. However, we had a good time here. We rated it with a 7 out of 10.
