After our simple breakfast in La Oliva at the local bakery, we drove to El Cortillo. We were impressed by the wide views of the volcanic desert with the high hills. The colors of the environment changed from red to yellow and from white to black. It looks unreal. Why would people live at such a dry place?
Local and relax feel at El Cotillo
El Cotillo is an easy-going ‘authentic’ fisherman village with a large beach where people amuse themselves with wave surfing or chilling in the sun. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Of course, there are touristic things to do here, to but it’s nothing compared the horrible tourist villages at the east coast such as Corralejo and Coleta de Fuste.
Review Restaurant La Vaca Azul
We walked over the beach and loved watching the many waves splashing on the surfers. There was a strong wind, but it was pleasant to cool down a bit from the warm sun. After our walk, we had lunch in the popular restaurant La Vaca Azul. While watching over the small harbour from the restaurant’s roof terrace, we ate grilled fish and octopus. We had a good time and enjoyed the friendly service. We rate this restaurant with a 7 out of 10.
Majanicho and walk to Calderon Hondo
After our lunch, we drove to the abandoned environment of Majanicho. It has a beautiful and rough feel with the atmosphere of a hippie surfer village. The ocean is wild here, and the wind is strong. Nearby we made a walk to Calderon Hondo, which leads to the top of a volcano. There were many mountain squirrels around.
Review restaurant Casa Tono
Via the white dunes of Corallejo, we drove to Puerto del Rosario where we had dinner at Casa Tono. A nice looking restaurant in the center of the small town with a big harbour. It feels local, but even here the servers try to speak a bit Dutch. It seems that the guy who served us came from Brussels. The tomato with goat cheese and Japanese salmon starter tasted nice, but the main course, tuna, was disappointing. The fish was too dry and not fresh. The price was somewhat high. We rate Casa Tono with a 6.5 out of 10.
